Market demand for stainless steel manhole covers
📷 The manhole cover is an indispensable part of the current city. It guards the safety of pedestrians and vehicles on the road. At the same time, it is responsible for eliminating the accumulation of water on urban roads.
With the development of society,
stainless steel manhole covers are used in many places. Because the reinforced concrete manhole cover was brittle and easy to break before, it was gradually replaced by cast iron and ductile iron. At the same time, the manhole cover made of glass fiber reinforced plastic grille is also very popular. This kind of manhole cover is corrosion-resistant, anti-aging, and has a high degree of lightness. , The service life can be as long as 50 years! No matter what kind of manhole cover, no matter what material the manhole cover is, an underground well protection net (manhole cover protection net) must be placed under the manhole cover.
Most manhole covers are mainly circular. However, not all round manhole covers are sewer manhole covers. There are many types of manhole covers on urban roads. In addition to sewer manhole covers, there are also tap water, electricity, gas, communication cables, heat, and septic tank manhole covers. The sewer manhole cover usually has the words "rain" or "dirt" written on it to distinguish it from other manhole covers.
At present, the city's demand for manhole covers not only requires quality assurance, but also aesthetics, especially after installation, the effect must be good. So there is the advent of decorative manhole covers. There are many kinds of materials for decorative manhole covers, but stainless steel is the main material.
Stainless steel manhole covers are generally divided into 201 and 304.201 stainless steel refers to steel that is resistant to weak media such as atmosphere, steam and water, while acid-resistant steel refers to steel that is resistant to chemical corrosion media such as acid, alkali, and salt. 304 stainless steel refers to a common material in stainless steel, with a density of 7.93g/cm3, which is also called 18/8 stainless steel in the industry. High temperature resistance of 800 degrees, with good processing performance and high toughness, it is widely used in industry and furniture decoration industry and food industry. The size of underground sewage outlets in each city is different. For example, some roads with relatively small specifications have smaller sewage outlets, and some large sections of roads have wider sewage outlets. When installing the stainless steel manhole cover, be sure to measure the size of the sewage outlet in advance, and then choose different sizes of manhole covers according to the actual size, so as to ensure the smooth installation. If the size of the selected manhole cover is not the same as the size of the sewage pipe, then the installation will not be able to continue

Five advantages of stainless steel manhole cover
- Anti-theft: Compared with other material manhole covers, stainless steel manhole covers have higher firmness, small joint gaps, and it is difficult to pry open with ordinary tools. Anti-theft performance*
- Safety: The manhole cover must not only prevent theft, but also take responsibility for the safety of the pipeline construction personnel. Due to the use of steel support, the stainless steel manhole cover will not be crushed even if it reaches a destructive load to prevent all aspects of damage caused by falling;
- High precision: the stainless steel manhole cover adopts moulding, the gap between the cover and the seat is small, which greatly improves the road traffic performance and driving comfort;
- Convenient and beautiful: The stainless steel manhole cover is only two-thirds of the cast iron manhole cover, which brings great convenience to installation and inspection. So that the beauty of the overall environment is not destroyed
- Environmental protection: The manhole cover is open all year round and has high requirements for corrosion resistance. The stainless steel manhole cover is not only moisture-proof, good acid and alkali resistance, but also anti-aging and has a long service life.

Use of SS manhole cover
The main uses are as follows:
- Drainage engineering, applied to rainwater and sewage pipelines
- Water supply engineering, applied to tap water, fire fighting engineering, etc.
- Heating engineering, applied to heating arm line.
- Power supply engineering, applied to power supply cables, telecommunications engineering, telephone, communication cable pipelines.
- Landscape engineering, application and supporting integrated pipelines.
- Gas engineering, applied to gas engineering, natural gas pipelines, etc.
- Street lamp engineering, applied to power supply, lighting, cable pipeline

Why is stainless steel manhole cover not easy to be corroded?
Stainless steel manhole covers are usually used as invisible manhole covers due to its characteristics. And with the development of technology, the quality of stainless steel materials has become better and better.
Why is stainless steel manhole cover not easily corroded? The corrosion resistance of stainless steel depends on the material chromium, which is one of the components of steel. When alloying steel with chromium, the surface oxide is changed to a similar oxide formed on pure chromium metal. This can protect the surface of the manhole cover from further oxidation. This oxide layer is very thin and will not affect the surface gloss of the stainless steel manhole cover. When making stainless steel manhole covers, a specific method is also adopted to treat the surface of the manhole cover, so that the manhole cover produced is not only beautiful and generous, but also has a longer service life.
Why are stainless steel manhole covers popular?
Stainless steel manhole cover is a very popular manhole cover at present. It has many advantages, not only good anti-theft performance, but also corrosion resistance and long service life. The product can be installed in places such as sewage outlets, power supply areas, and traffic signals.
Where can the stainless steel manhole cover be used?
- The place where the stainless steel manhole cover is more commonly used is the sewage outlet. As we all know, there will be underground sewage pipes in every city. At intervals, the sewage pipe will have some nozzles. In order to increase the safety of the nozzle, the nozzle must be equipped with safety measures.
- In addition to the use of this stainless steel invisible manhole cover for the sewage outlet, some power supply areas are also used.
- In addition to being used in underground sewage outlets and power supply areas, stainless steel manhole covers can also be used in traffic signals, rainwater, gas and other occasions. With the requirements of urban construction for aesthetics, more and more cities have changed some traditional manhole covers into stainless steel invisible manhole covers.

Specification and size of stainless steel manhole
Different scenarios definitely have different requirements for the size and specifications of the manhole cover, so what are the common specifications of stainless steel manhole cover?
Stainless steel manhole covers are widely used in municipal engineering, garden engineering, real estate projects, for sewage wells, drainage wells, cable wells, etc. Because of their different drawings, the specifications and sizes are also different. According to the applicable site, we divide the stainless steel manhole covers into: The conventional sizes of municipal stainless steel manhole covers, garden stainless steel manhole covers, and local stainless steel manhole covers are as follows:
- Frame size:
The small size is generally more than 300mm in length, and the small size is usually square, used for sewage and drainage wells;
Large size is generally about 2800mm in length, mostly rectangular, usually used for cable wells; when the length is greater than 1000mm, load bearing is considered and it is recommended to divide into grids.
2, the thickness is usually divided into: 3 centimeters, 4 centimeters, 5 centimeters, 6 centimeters (mostly 4, 5 centimeters)
3, the height is usually divided into: 80H, 60H, 70H

I'm not sure whether I should flair this post as Original Story or Crossposted Story since I have one posted in the HFY subreddit, please let me know if I've broken any rules or have spelling mistakes in the post, thank you!
By the way, this is a oneshot, if you want more, I will link a Prologue at the bottom of the post, this oneshot is essentially the building blocks of what made Drug Monkeys a universe, so I was satisfied with how I've come up with this one.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading this! If you have any thoughts, ideas, or comments to share please do post so!

Drug Monkeys
...
In this cruel galaxy, things like narcotics and drugs are only a temporary bliss that most species would want to pour millions of credits over, to ignore their sad reality, and to indulge in the moment of delicious fantasy and dreams, it was a glaring issue that the federation has ever faced since its foundation, depression, suicide, hatred, all sorts of negative emotions, save for only a few pacifist-minded species, existed in every species they've known.
It was a biological fact, that every single race had a negative emotion attached to their sentience, no matter who you are or where you are from, you're bonded to experience something negative at one point, constantly experiencing this phenomenon made people's mental health to degrade, such as the case of the galaxy's ongoing narcotics trade.
Thanks to ever-changing drugs and the recent wars and conflicts rampaging throughout between the Federation and other collective governments in the galaxy, drugs like Opilains or Gujrnaid were made, these drugs give users a blissful experience from time to time, to make it seem like the world isn't that bad, or that their exploited lives are enough as it is when there is much improvement left to be accomplished or to feel like they're an absolute god in their heads, to be the top of the world and rule over everyone, that was what these drugs are like, to combat the effects of mental degradation, according to everyone's experiences in the net.
These drugs became addictive for certain species, typically the ones that are easily emotionally distressed or have violent tendencies or traumatic experiences in the past, they were labeled as 'addicts' by the wider community, since their lives depended on the drug as if it were their only lifeline, to bring them to new heights in their world.
Sadly and unfortunately, these drugs weren't easy to make, they're made from many species' bodily fluids that bring everlasting pleasure to the mind, mainly the Kruglèrs, Epiiieeexxx, and the Organtæs, these three species were so heavily exploited by drug slavers that the federation classifies them as "narcotic-species", a species that has fluids strong enough to bring a person to a trance-like state as if drugged.
The three species remained in the top three places in the narcotics illegal trades board in the black market, or NIT for short, they were sold like slaves, sucked off of their bodily fluids, and forced to either do physical labor or be thrown away like a dry husk in the streets without a care for their well-being, this was also common for other narcotic-species below those top three places in the NIT, nobody even protested since the fluids are much more worth than their lives, plus their addiction to the substance didn't help their situation either.
The black market dealers were booming in this golden age of the narcotics trade, spreading their influence and products to outer regions of the galaxy and intentionally letting innocent species be addicted to their products, making their business more profitable, exploiting the innocence of other species before them and repeating the process like an endless loop, and the worst of it all is that the federation couldn't do anything about it if they've banned these drugs, the people will riot into the streets and cause a major uproar, losing credibility and trust from its citizens.
At this point, it was useless to try to block the flow of drugs made from other species which the federation considered taboo, the only thing they could do is to try to regulate the flow of drugs and bust those who tried to trade it discreetly, one by one.
So while the NIT was rampant between Federal Galactic unions, a new species introduced itself to the wider galaxy, Humanity, they called themselves, a furless mammalian bipedal race, everyone shared their greetings with the race and returned to whatever they were doing from before.
At first, the Humans were nothing of interest, with average strength, weight, and height, relatively good stamina and endurance, and great smarts and wisdom, and that's essentially it, the only glaring quality about them is that their stamina was above average than most species, not something common to see, but was certainly eye-catching.
But that's what made them unique.
Fast-forward a few months later after breaking through the great filter from their system's homeworld, the Humans were entirely seen in suits made to protect themselves whenever traveling through the galaxy, they were never seen without wearing those suits, although their physical form was already well-known, nobody faced them in person before.
So someday in a gardenworld's dormitory, when a Kerkithil, a race of feline descent, saw her human roommate counterpart, in nothing but a few fabrics of clothing covering his lower half, she smelt the intoxicating scent of his sweat, streaking down his well-toned abs after working out in his room, she was immediately affected by the human's sweat, making her body tense up and her eyes drowsy, feeling her mind clouded with pleasure, of course, the human called in the dormitory's security guard for help, they passed out, the same goes for local authorities, and it all went downhill from there.
From his scent alone, he made an entire district unable to function properly due to his intoxicating smell, people who experienced the accident recalled the feeling of being in pure bliss and pleasure before passing out on the spot, save for a few tough species at the time.
This incident made it into galactic-wide news, catching the eyes of the many Federations in the galaxy and drug traders, and soon came to the inevitable realization that Humanity was another narcotic-species, a unique and rare one at that, many narcotic traders jumped into action, with buyers breathing down their neck to kidnap a human for personal use after discovering the drug was their sweat, many federations from each branch of the galaxy started to hastily write up laws for the safety of the humans and prepped many drug-busting operations, as they know for a fact that the opposition has started making their move, it will be a harsh conflict with Humanity squeezed in the middle, their fate lies in the hands of these two sides.
And as for the human from earlier responsible for the accident not too long ago, who turned out to be a transfer student, was warned countless times about not wearing his suit near other species. He now knows the reason why, with a large target on his back and Earth's government attempting to evacuate him and other humans from the garden world to safety, it was too late, he was kidnapped and off to a fortified colony on a seemingly deserted planet hundreds of kilometers away from any known civilization nearby.
When he came to, he and others were contained in large tight-sealed glass coffins with a respirator connected to their face to keep them alive, they were also naked, with nothing but latex shorts for clothing, vertically lined up, he heard muffled voices coming from outside, and through the steamy and blurry glass he could make out a feline-like humanoid, 'a Kerkitril?' He thought, 'Did they kidnap me?' He was unsure of the others beside him, but he knows for a fact that he was being sold to someone else as a property they could use, in whatever way they want.
Thankfully, his translator installed in the entrance of his ears began to function, and the strange language he heard in the room warbled into something tangible he could understand, the speakers sparking to life.
"
[Translating language]—ou sure this is the same human I saw on that incident a while ago? I don't want to waste another five mil creds on some skinny chump on the internet." A feminine voice said in the room, talking to someone big and bulky, as the translator picked up his words too, although under a rougher tone of voice.
"Yes, it's the guy. You can look at him yourself, see if he's the real deal to ya." The bulky figure said as the human began to panic once he sees the Kerkitril approach his coffin glass, squirming in his tight restraints as he saw her press something on the side, bringing up window wipers on the side of the coffin, which was unexpected.
He was finally able to see who the feminine voice is, as he suspected, she was a Kerkitril, resembling a feline back on Earth if it weren't for the bipedal digitigrade legs she possesses, she had green-oranged stripes streaked across her red fur, she looked like your run-of-the-mill bandit leader, a black bandana lies on her furry neck with an emblem of a skull of her race, her clothes were nothing short of dirty and ragged yet covered in armor and pads designed for her light body, she had checked all the marks of being a space pirate, a rich one at that, seeing as how the room he's in is full of credits, the creds taking in the form of different shapes, from triangles, squares, pentagon, up until decagon.
"A-Ah, I didn't think he'd be this tall in person." The Kerkitril remarked, ghasted by his gigantic appearance, as well as the muscles and the sweat that he kept coalescing thanks to the constant warm heat in the coffin.
"Same goes for me, took me a while to carry this seven-foot bastard, is he a unique human or something?" He realized the voice belonged to a bull-like anthro, almost the same height as him.
"Hmmm... Do you mind me tasting the package?" The Kerkitril said, eyeing the bull as he nodded for confirmation, "Go ahead, but you'll have to buy the second whiff if you are to go yet again." She glared at him before turning her attention to the human who was wide awake during the whole conversation, his brown eyes staring into her yellow-slitted ones, he felt the heat in the coffin die down, and a small hole seemingly appeared in the transparent confines.
"Mmm..." She took a good long sniff of the human's sweat, then it struck her, her mind begins to wander, and the familiar feeling of bliss and ecstasy coursing through her head, her feline body shivering in pleasure, she felt herself be carried by the Kerkitril's guardians to the doorstep of the equivalent of heaven in her world, before she could get any deeper into this feeling however, the bull from earlier forcibly closed the hole in the glass via a press of a button, abruptly interrupting her blissful moment.
"Wuh... Oh." Her voice sounded disappointed and depressed now that she's snapped back to reality, the bull leaned on the fragile glass coffin, slightly nudging the human inside as he tries his best to not hyperventilate.
"Welp, five million creds, right? Here, take it, here, your damn money, now let me have this human in my roster." The Kerkatril stated, giving the bull five hexagonal-shaped coins as his eye scanner displayed a digital holographic number for him, "Hmm, five million creds... Seeing as how you're eager to get the guy yourself, I'm not gonna hold you off any longer." The bull pulls out a slim card, inserting it into the coffin's left control panel which had a slot for the card, three red dots lit green after the first few seconds, revealing a red button hidden in the coffin's compartment.
"You might wanna get your mask on, I ain't kidding you from earlier, this thing reeks of drugs." The bull said, wearing his ergonomically made gasmask designed for his species, the Kerkitril does the same, after seeing she was masked, he lightly presses the red button, and a beep could be heard, then the glass panel seemingly vanished into thin air, the metal restraints on the human's limbs unclamped by themselves one by one, dropping the weak yet still awake human on the hard floor of the room he's in, after further examining where he was, he finds himself in an office decorated in pirate stuff, like plasma guns hanging on the wall at the right, a fan above him turned out to be blades, the window on his left is broken yet covered in electrified iron railings to protect from intruders, beside the window is a gun locker full to the brim with plasma-driven weapons and improvised melees, at the middle of the room's walls was a large skull of a predator he didn't know, riddled with holes and rusty arrows, the cracked fangs protruding from its jaws scared him.
While surveying his surroundings, he failed to realize an opened choker was aiming for his neck, he felt goosebumps when the cold metallic choker clamped around his neck, hearing and feeling the swift movements of multiple locks being put into place filled him with dread, the finalizing touch was when a padlock was attached to a hole in his choker for extra measure, "That seems a little too overkill, doncha think?" The Kerkitril smirked at the bull with her question, referring to the padlock that he placed on the human to be humorous despite the choker itself having so many locks in place.
"Hush, our meeting ends here, you received the package, I got the payment. I'll look forward to your next purchase, Miss Suritka." The bull phrased his usual go-to leave as he grabbed a large chain connected to the coffins of the other humans, leaving through the reinforced double doors of her office, with a slide and a hiss sealed the human's fate, while the human slightly relieved that the big man in the room is gone, he had another person to worry about, the Kerkitril from earlier stared at him maliciously, still keeping that mask of hers on her face, inching closer and closer to his with a raging yearn for something in her eyes.
"Hello, Human." She said the last part with an awfully conspicuous tone near his whitish face as he diverted his gaze from her, "What's your name?" She said slowly and intimidatingly, lifting his chin to look into her eyes yet again, patiently waiting for an answer.
"U-Uhm... Jim."

| So I just got a grow kit of etsy and injected my Burma spores into them (2 jars). Now it says they like heat but should I use my heating pad to keep it at that 72-75 degrees range because my apartment gets really cold. The jars are now in a dark place. Am I required to keep them warm while they are in the jar? submitted by Sasuke_1738 to experimyco [link] [comments] |
2023.03.26 09:14 Muffin_man_1405 [FN]WERE-BIRD
(guys, this is my first time writing something, pls I need harsh criticism on this to improve my writing. )
WERE-BIRD
Steve was a wonderful guy. He was kind and friendly, never really argued with anyone in the village, and forget getting into fights. He lived in a village called Inverell, it was a pretty small town, and it was mostly farmers, but it was very famous for its bread. The Inverell bakery was quite famous in the nearby towns, and loads of people came down to buy bread and doughnuts. Steve too worked at the bakery. He lived alone; his house was on the hill just behind the village bar. It was not huge but it was good enough for Steve, also he had a small garden in the backyard where he grew a few vegetables and sometimes when the reaping was good, he would sell them at the weekend market in town; after all, Steve too liked an extra penny in his pocket, but money had never really mattered much to him so much, what he got from the bakery was good enough to bet by. He liver a very boring, mundane ordinary life yet there was something different, something far from ordinary that happened to him.
Tonight was the night, he was trekking up Swan hill. It was a full moon night, that was the reason he was climbing all over to the top of swan hill but this had become a routine for him now, he went there every full moon night, and don't get this wrong he did not perform any ritual or prayed to satan or anything it was nothing like that, it was very different something unheard of.
As he got nearer to the hilltop and towards a clearer area with fewer trees and more grass he slowed down. He settled down his backpack and took off his shirt. He checked the sky for clouds. He was standing in a clearing and the moonlight was falling just on him, like a spotlight. he looked towards the cliff and the endless-looking dark void below that stretched down as if going straight to hell. Anyone other than him would have run away and got under their cozy beds, even steve was thinking of doing the same thing not too long ago, but now it felt addicting to do this every full moon night, even though Steve never confessed this to himself and he self-assured himself that he was indifferent about his uniqueness, he did become excited every time the full moon appeared, he would become more eager as full moon night neared. He looked down the cliff backed up a few steps and as usual, started running toward the cliff. He felt the moonlight on his back, it felt ice cold yet at the same time there was a warmness spreading through his body, it was feeling like drinking hot coffee on a snowy day. He could feel the heat on his shoulder blades. He kept running towards the cliff edge and kept getting closer and closer to the edge but he didn't stop, and kept going and then threw himself down the cliff. He swooped down and he felt the wind rushing in his face, his hairs were all rearward and his cheeks were flying because of the air forcing in on his face, but then suddenly he felt a drag as if he was pulled back by somebody no something
It was an empowering feeling to just glide smoothly through the air.HE looked back to see his wings. They were pure white, and the moonlight glittered off of them. This was his uniqueness, something different, something far from ordinary. he grew wings on full moon nights he did not know why, or how, maybe it was inherited, but it didn't matter. He could never ask his parents because he never met them.
He grew up in an orphanage "Eden Orphanage", which was the name and the irony was even the orphanage had abandoned him when they found out about his little secret. They thought that he was somewhat cursed. He still remembered the night that it happened for the first time. They had gone camping and everyone was asleep long before moonrise but Steve he couldn't sleep, so decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air and that is when it happened that mixed feeling of warmth and icy-cold, he was so scared, he didn't know what was happening to his body, he screaming at the top of his lungs. Long story short he had found his way to Inverell. He got a job at the mayor's house as a servant, then at the factory later bought the house, at first, the people weren't so welcoming but later he fit in just fine. In the beginning, he didn't dare go on his little adventures every full moon night, for fear of getting cast out of the place he called home but later he gave in to the temptation and taught himself to fly and then every full moon night he after everyone went to bed he started escaping and surprisingly nobody noticed that he was missing every full moon night, because all the houses were so far away from one another, and everyone was so tired no one even bothered to notice that some guy was missing like he was right now.
He felt a deep sense of freedom now that he was flying. At first, he used to close all the windows and tried to make it through the night. Just the fear of somebody finding out his secret was enough. Maybe he was scared of being an outcast. But later on, he taught himself to fly; he thought ' if I have the power to fly what is the point of wasting it like this" He had not perfected the art yet, he was still bad at landing and got himself hurt most of the time, but he glid through the sky smoothly, and sometime he could even do a roll mid-flight without losing control. He was flying on his regular route where no one could see him. He could see the beach ahead of him. It was looking beautiful. The water was somehow very still at the horizon, and short waves were grazing down on the rocks. He could see the moon shimmering on the water as if someone had turned on the blub underneath it and it was glowing up the whole sea. He checked, there were pretty big clouds over the beach, it wouldn't be such a bad idea. So he decided to take a little detour.
He turned over to one side and swooped to left. he flapped his wings to fly a bit higher into the clouds so that no one could see him. He stopped and tried to stay in a vertical position, like standing, and kept flapping his wings to stay afloat, it was a new trick he had learned. He was looking at the water; it was remarkably still and patient, and looking at him instilled a feeling of calm in him. Ignorance of how long he was standing like that dawned on him and he checked the time on his clock it was quite late; he thought that he better went back before sunrise, as he could keep the wings only for a night.
This was one of his biggest fears, that someday he was going to forget about it and he was going to lose his wings mid-flight and plummet down to earth. But he shook his head and turned back reluctantly, he couldn't get his eyes off the beautiful sight; the beach was brilliant but he knew that he had to go. He started flying back; but as he was returning, he saw a glimmer in the sky and it vanished behind the other hilltop trees, he first thought that it must be some seagull but what he saw was far too big. He decided to follow it. He looked at the watch, he still had a few hours. He started flying towards the hill. It was just opposite swan hill. He flew there and turned by the tree on the hilltop, but there was nothing there he looked around, then he tried to land on the hill as gently as he could, but made a big mess, as usual, he looked around but he found nothing. He thought to himself that it was nothing and that it was just his mind playing tricks on him. He again glanced at his watch and as he was going to take off again. He felt a sudden force, and he was tackled down and the next thing he knew, he was pinned down to the ground by a woman. She had jet-black hair, but he couldn't make out her face in the darkness. Although he had seen one thing and that was she too had wings like him, all brilliant white. He pushed her and tried to make a run for it but she caught him and turned his arm ready to break it at any given moment, he was facing the other side, and she was right behind him twisting his arm. he was held captive. there was nothing he could do. He was again extremely confused, she was like him, a few minutes before the idea that other were-birds even existed hadn't entered his mind. And if she was like him, she was not going to kill him at least not because of his wings. His head started spinning, He had lots of questions and the one most significant was why was she pinning his arm. Just then she said " who are you, where did you come from? " "huh, speak Cinnar", and she twisted her arm even more. She had a slightly heavy accent like Russian people have but she didn't exactly sound Russian. He groaned "I don't know what Cinnara means, in fact, I had no idea that another were bird like me even exist", She twisted his arms even more and Steve grunted "what is were-bird"She asked" like werewolf you know, They turn into wolfs, we turn into birds ", She chuckled, like a teen girl "huh, that is cute thought, but playing innocent or being funny isn't gonna get you out of trouble, you trespassed Pokqua tribes territory at night, and you will be punished", Steve thought ". 'playing innocent', and what was pekua, before he could explain himself She spoke again " tell me, which tribe are you,". Steve said in the most beseeching way " please mam, I don't know what the hell you talking about..." but before he could complete, he was forced to cry out again beacuse she had kicked him in his back with her knee and asked the same question again but a bit louder, "I asked, which tribe do you belong to !!, look you are Svetha too, and I don't want to hurt you, please don't make me do it, " He said "No, no there seems to be a misunderstanding, I am Steve, not Swatta ... " he then thought to himself, if she had actually called him sweaty although it seemed a bit less probable. But then she growled," stop playing the idiot, let me see your engravings ". She then jerked him and held his throat. It was now that he could now see her face a bit more clearly, and she looked rather beautiful, she had jet black hair and a round face, and she had a skin made out of hazelnut coffee. as smooth as the pale moonlight that was spilling down on both of them. There was a certain glow to her face, emanating from her body and those wings, it was as if looking at an actual angle. She commanded him "show me your wings"; steve lifted his wings and showed them to her. she yanked them and looked closely at the arms of his wings and he saw her face losing all the glow he had seen before. She was too shocked to speak this was something she had never seen before. She asked him trying to hide her shock but failing miserably." where are your engravings" she looked at him with a perplexed look.her voice too was a bit relaxed, sympathetic almost, Now she had let go of him and was standing in front of him maybe he was sure that he was not gonna try to fly away now. " she asked him " who the hell are you?" she asked him with a shaky voice. He said "I am steve and I live over there," he pointed towards his village" my village is right over that hill, look I did not know that his area was your territory.Look I won't trespass, next time.I won't even come near anywhere in your territory. so if you just let me go, please look the sun will be up anytime and then I would have to walk down this hill and take a ferry all over there you see, and hell these ferries these days take a hell of a lot of money." she asked him" you still haven't learned to keep you wings after sun." he thought 'you get to keep them after sun'. She produced something out of her pocket."good things I have this on me" She held a little vail in her hand . She opened it up and emptied it in his mouth. It didn't taste like anything. It was just like plain water. She told, " just stretch your wings as wide as you can and try to just not let them vanish". Now her demeanor towards him had changed she was less threatening now, rather she sounded more sympathetic and helpful, caring even. He looked at her, she said "trust me, jus stop thinking that your wings are going to vanish" he was very confused. Half the things that she said didn't even make any sense. But then the sunlight hit him.He closed his eyes waiting for that tingling sensation in his shoulder bone to return, he had his wings stretched out and all hoping that they would just stay as they are but he was pretty sure that it was not gonna happen. So he waited, but when he opened his eyes half hoping that the wings were in place, and to his utter surprise they were, and he was pretty impressed by that. He kept glancing back, and now he could see the sun glazing off of his wings. She was just standing there watching him, she was too shocked to comprehend anything, 'how can someone have no engravings' ' maybe farg suha knows what this is all about ' she was watching him jumping around as if trying to catch his feathers. It was even amusing to watch him. He was like a small kid who had just been given the gift, but in a way, she had just given it to him. trying to put away her amusement she spoke in a strong voice maintaining her authority."Now listen to me, if you are telling me the truth, then we shall find; out I am taking you to my village, but if you are lying to me then keep in mind I will pluck out each and every feather of your wings and peel your skin and make you regret this choice". He just managed to give her a small nod. Although he was scared of her he dared to ask her " what do you mean by your village" she chuckled " hmmm, what did you think, you are the only cinnar in this whole world. We are a whole different race, we are a totally different species. We are the cinnar, ancestors of the great Avicula, of the Pokqua tribe. com'n, you will get the hang of it.There is just so much you have yet to see dear."

2023.03.26 08:13 Working_Concept_4070 Any hot climate growers out there?
I live in an extremely hot climate. Average summer temps are about 100 degrees with some nights staying above 85. It is not uncommon to be above 100 for a couple weeks at a time. I’ve seen it over 120. It is a dry heat though.
All that being said, what are some of your best tomato varieties and techniques for growing in the extreme heat?
I’ve noticed that many of the popular pruning techniques don’t work—every fruit that is in direct sunlight gets vaporized by sun scald. The best production and quality I have managed came when I just let the plants go wild on a sturdy cage.
I’m going to try a combination of shade cloth and a modified single stem pruning technique this year. The modification would be: allowing multiple stems and pruning about 50% of the true single stem technique.
Additionally, I have moved my tomatoes from raised beds to in ground. I’m doing this to conserve water. I rented a trencher and cut two parallel 30” deep by 8” wide trenches separated by 8”. I added compost and some other amendments and stir it all together into one 2’ wide x 30” deep in ground bed. I capped it off with thick layer of aged wood chips.
I’m curious if anybody has any tips or tricks to growing in the heat. Or any comments about what I’ve tried.

2023.03.26 08:06 kurokamisawa How to germinate Carolina Reaper seeds?[living in the tropics without a heat mat]
I’m living in the tropics with temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius/86 degrees Fahrenheit. I usually germinate my Jalapeño peppers via the paper towel method. I did some research on germinating Carolina Reaper seeds and I noticed that no paper towel method was mentioned, instead it’s placing the seeds directly in seed starter mix and on a heat mat. I don’t have a heat mat at home. Does anyone here have success with germinating these seeds and can recommend a tried and tested method? Also, do I have to soak the seeds beforehand?

2023.03.26 08:03 The_Real_ZerXceS Based on my Arnie post I have assembled THE difinitive list... for all time.
I AM THE ARBITER OF ARNIE AND I HAVE SPOKEN!! Just kidding... I had an amazing post yesterday where the comments FAR outweighed the karma, and I wanted it that way. The topic was Arnie flicks... and boy did I get some conversation for my overnight security guard shift! I tried to take the general consensus and distil it into an Arnie top 10 list that covers MY likes, the general consensus, QUALITY of a movie, SIZE of a production and release, and overall IMPACT on popular media and media culture as a whole.
and so now here it is ... THE ALL TIME DIFINITIVE TOP 10 ARNIE MOVIE LIST THAT IS 100% ACCURATE AND BETTER THAN ANY OTHER OPINIONS IN ALL UNIVERSES! (tm)
- Predator
- Terminator 2
- Terminator
- Conan the Barbarian
- Total Recall
- True Lies
- Running Man
- Commando
- Conan the Destroyer
- Twins
I feel the sheer QUALITY of the shoot and score give Predator the top spot. The cast and vibe are impeccable. The Terminators are too huge and too important and the places reflect their impact. Conan is the cornerstone, and I feel the rest roughly falls in place for respective values. For the comedies, only Twins had the true essential Arnie factor and the others kind of spun off that. For the unmentioned action, Red Heat probably edges out Raw Deal or other lesser titles. The Conan sequel is retained because of the quality, despite it's generic vibe. Last Action Hero gets an honorable mention as the black sheep. It's a varied and large collection, but I feel this list is at least as good as I can get it trying to mesh all categories of judgement with the responses I got. I owe it to the true fans to do some fun homework and share my answers. I'm sure some of you think differently but that's ok... the turnout for the anything goes Arnie post was one of the best and most genuine I've seen on this scorched wasteland of a website! Thanks for the fun, bye bye for now. I'll be back!

2023.03.26 08:03 silentphil31 Bell Tent Stove Heat Mat?
We are going away next week in a bell tent I bought for the girlfriend. We have a Outbacker Stove that will fit inside and from what I've seen We need a heat mat too.
The heat mat that is made for the Stove seems to be always out of stock.
My question to you if you don't mind helping, is the heat mat to protect again heat transference from the stove/legs or for sparks that mind come off the stove? Will a heat mat that is used for outdoor bbqs be suitable? I can't find much in the way of simular heat mats... just the bbq ones to protect patios/grass/decking etc.
Thanks for any help... I'm probally over thinking it

Have you ever seen a moon lamp that seems to defy gravity and float in mid-air? If not, then you need to check out the Moon lamp. This incredible lamp is not only a stunning addition to any room, but it's also an engineering marvel that will make you wonder if you're living in the future.
The Moon lampe is 3D-printed using high-quality satellite images of the moon from NASA. This gives the lamp an incredibly realistic appearance, making it seem like you have a piece of the moon floating in your room. The lamp emits a beautiful and warm glowing light, making it perfect for creating a cozy atmosphere in any space.
What makes the Moon lamp so unique is that it uses magnetic levitation to stay suspended in the air. The lamp hovers effortlessly over its base, almost as if it's weightless. This is achieved through the use of advanced magnetic technology, which creates a powerful magnetic field that keeps the lamp in place.
The base of the lamp is made from dark walnut, which gives it a sleek and modern look. The lamp itself is available in several different sizes, so you can choose the one that best fits your space. It's a fantastic addition to any interior, whether you have a modern or classic style.
One of the things that I love most about the Moon lamp is how versatile it is. It can be used in any room, from a child's bedroom to a home office. It's perfect for creating a relaxing and calming atmosphere, and it's also a great conversation starter. Whenever I have guests over, they can't help but be amazed by the lamp's unique design and technology.
In addition to the moon lamp, there are also other products available that use magnetic levitation technology. For example, there's the levitating planets, which are floating planets that seem to defy gravity. There's also the levitating earth, a futuristic globe that hovers in the air and makes you feel like you have the whole universe at your fingertips.
Overall, the moon lamp is an exceptional decoration idea that everyone should consider. It's a fantastic conversation starter, a mesmerizing piece of engineering, and a stunning addition to any room. Whether you're looking to create a cozy atmosphere or want to add a touch of modernity to your space, the moon lamp is an excellent choice.

2023.03.26 07:36 ZenAddams Ziggy the Emaciated Ball Python: UPDATE #2
Hey everyone! I've had a number of people messaging me and commenting asking how our boy Ziggy is doing and so far it's going well! Last night we attempted to feed him since he was enjoying her new terrarium setup and was quite active. At first he had no interest in the fuzzy, but after some advice from other users I decided to leave his mouse directly under his heat lamp area on top a rock hide I got for him to see if he decided to check it out. Lo and behold within the hour I was checking the tank humidity levels before bed and he'd eaten it! Since eating he's just been hanging out in the plants on the warm side and so far has seemed all good! No regurgitation thus far or any signs of stress from him after eating, so fingers crossed it continues like this!
Everyone's tips have been so helpful and they gave me such good things to keep an eye out for and questions to ask the vet to make sure he gets the best care, so thank you all again. The only thing I'm having trouble with at this moment is keeping the humidity levels in the tank up, so if anyone has any tips for that, it'd be a great help.
The substrate I'm using is forest floor, and I have a shallow dish with Sphagnum moss and a little water in it to keep the moss hydrated. So far it hasn't tried out at all, but the humidity is tanking within hours. I'll go in and spray it down and have added water to corners away from his hides, and It temporarily will go up to 75%-80% humidity but it never keeps for more than a couple of hours. The warm sides Temps maintain between 88-91 degrees and the cold side maintains between 80-83 degrees usually, but have noticed it dips sometimes to lowest of occasionally. I don't keep the AC in my apartment blasting or anything because I also get cold really easily so it's honestly never set below 73 degrees in my house. I'm currently using a CHE and a heat mat in the tank, and the screen top is covered in aluminum foil tape with the exception of some small openings on the corners for ventilation. Any tips to keep up the humidity and the temperature if it's too low at all would be greatly appreciated!

2023.03.26 06:44 mcdoolz Siphoners.
Hey my fellow game masters. I've been exploring a concept through my current campaign that I'd like to introduce you to: the Siphoner.
I wish to note that I have not played any other swamp based material to source anything herein so any similarities or conflicts with such should be dealt with by your best judgement.
I hope you find the contents of this post beneficial towards your game.
Some operators may find the Writ of Harvest featured herein as an unnecessary facet and can feel free to remove it.
This isn't meant to provide a breadth of source material for a swamp land but does offer some Flora and Fauna to round it out. For additional material or inspiration I offer the following:
Guide to the Swamp The Cormyrian Marshes Farsea Swamp Let's dive in, shall we?
Siphoners
What is a Siphoner?
Alchemists need alchemical materials for refinement, production and eventual sale as potions, balms, salves, etc.
While adventurers certainly provide decent influx of the goods necessary, the industrious alchemist needs consistent supply.
Enter the
siphoner, responsible for collecting
swamp material specifically for the aforementioned purposes.
Siphoning is regarded as a poor and life threatening career choice, albeit as lucrative as it is dangerous.
A siphoner may work independently, as part of a guild, or common merchants, so long as they carry license to perform their work.
Siphoners as a body range in size, race and capability, however they're not known for long life expectancy.
"Dunno why we're called that. Better than suckas I figga." *~ Unattributed*
Writ of Harvest
Harvesting natural resources for sale or magical purposes requires a
Writ of harvest providing the bearer license to conduct activities in accordance to standards and defining them a
harvester.
A writ is registered to an individual or company and is a public record.
Siphoners carry a
License of Harvest that denotes who they are harvesting on behalf of.
A writ is a pressed vellum document with the harvesting body's name, their region of activity, and a wax seal of the regions governing body.
A siphoners license is parchment but has the relevant details and the typically a harvesters seal in wax.
What do Siphoners do?
Siphoners work to harvest material from swamps for alchemical uses. They may be independent or employed but either way they are responsible for ensuring the flow of resources.
Retrieving and replacing pump barrels
Picking up full barrels and replacing them with empty barrels involves traveling to the pumping site, pulling the full barrel onto a transport and inserting a fresh, empty barrel in its place. The barrels are then brought home to be emptied, and the material refined.
Maintenance & repair of pumps
Pumps need to be cleaned semi-regularly depending on what they're pumping. Replacing worn out parts, emptying reservoirs, or pulling clogs.
Harvesting fields of growth
Chopping and bundling the flora of the swamps in either twine, leather or crates.
Conducting trade
Meeting with the swamp denizens is a regular occurence and trade is inevitable as the native population of Bullywugs, and Lizardpeople can be friendly and may provide amenities to non-hostile travelers.
Escorts
Accompanying travelers through areas that would be hostile towards them otherwise can be a lucrative method of income. Siphoners risk being ostracized if they are escorting bad company without good reason.
Freight
Carrying goods between the hamlets and cities of the swamp lands is a dangerous affair that most merchants avoid, choosing instead to employ those who are equipped to take their goods to a destination. Siphoners should be aware of what may be considered contraband and the risk it poses on their license.
A Siphoners Life
Authorities
A region will enforce their laws as best they can with field agents and accompanying platoons of guards who roam known routes of travel in the effort to maintain safety and the law.
If a regions representative is encountered in the field, they may ask to inspect cargo to ensure the rules of the Writ of Harvest are being followed and may ask to see the siphoner
license of harvest. If no member of a harvesting group can produce a copy of a license, they may all face a fine for not having their license on their person, or imprisonment for not having any license at all.
Either way, the region representative can have any goods seized and placed in lock up until license is proven, at which point a storage fee (eg: 2 copper per day) is billed before the goods are released.
Drovers
A catch all term for the civilized population of the swamp, Drovers live in settlements deep in the swamp with little or no easy method of travel to and from their remote homes. Drovers don't go out of their way to maintain contact with other communities but they are not necessarily anti social and can provide a welcome respite to a lost traveler in the vast muck.
Siphon stations
A siphon station is a pump or other machine that fills receptacles with material pulled from the swamp.
These pumps tend to be geothermal machines, river powered apparatuses or methane driven.
They reside where ever the resources are available, which is typically in hard to reach places.
Barrels
A barrel is a catch all term for the container used by a siphon station.
Barrels may range in size and durability from a standard sized ale barrel made of wood or say a fabricated metal drum.
Some organizations have taken to using special receptacles made of thick, fibrous, mucous lined plant matter.
Whatever the container, it should be noted that when full, they are very heavy.
Transportation
A sturdy (armored) wagon, a magic carpet, or
Animate Object, the siphoners should beware of natural dangers and prepare for the worst.
Beasts of burden must be stalwart and strong in order to brave the monsters and manage the muck that will threaten progress at any moment.
Vehicles should provide cover and must have wheels large enough for the terrain.
Travel
When traveling the swamps, movement should be slow and deliberate, with navigation difficult and failure to navigate leading to dead ends where roads meet open swamp.
How you adjudicate direction and navigation is up to you although I suggest
Dracodruid's Expanded Travel Rules.
Traveling more than eight hours in the swamps should incur a level of exhaustion.
Flora
The natural elements of a swamp are various and plentiful in a massive teeming spread of exotic, lush, greenery.
As expected, much of the plant life in the swamp tends to be a danger to those who stumble into it.
A Siphoner however, is tasked with doing just that, in order to harvest these materials.
Thornmoss
This red and black moss grips at whatever touches it with many tiny curled barbs growing from its surface. A creeping carpet of pain,
Thornmoss is considered a terrible threat to beasts of burden.
Thornmoss can be found near carcasses where the plant flourishes feeding upon the material.
A carpet of
Thornmoss may be crossed with a DC 11 Dexterity check every 30 feet, provided the wearer has boots on and they fall prone if this check is failed by 5 or more.
Any creature who comes in contact with wall or ceiling borne
Thornmoss must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw to pull away from it, receiving 3d4+3 damage or half as much on a successful save.
If a creature is prone upon or attempts to cross a carpet of
Thornmoss without adequate footwear (eg: leather boots) they must make a DC 16 Constitution saving throw to escape, receiving 3d4+3 damage or half as much on a successful save.
When dried, the barbs become brittle and easily shake loose of the moss. The moss then makes excellent insulation, can be cured as animal feed and or crushed into a spice similar to nutmeg.
A 5 ft x 5 ft square carpet of
Thornmoss typically takes 2 creatures 1 hour to harvest and can be sold for 3 gp.
Gaspods
Growing to sometimes massive size in methane rich areas, these pod plants resemble large balloons floating and tethered above the waters surface by a thick umbilical root through which they continue to collect methane rich with nutrients that they use to continue growing.
They are harvested for their gas used in lamps, cooking and heating among those who can afford it, and for fuel in alchemy, smithing and so on. The tether is covered in a thick sticky mucous, can be uprooted or severed safely and can be used to transport the floating
Gaspod and is an umbilical hose from which the methane will expel.
Their skin is resilient to puncture (AC 13, 8 HP) and when popped they deflate harmlessly, causing the area to reek even more of their collected methane.
A
Gaspod that ends a round touching open flame may take damage causing the skin to thin and rupture then igniting the contents and causing an explosion depending on the size of the
Gaspod.
Gaspods larger than
Medium are rare as they tend to become so big they wipe out entire fields if detonated by a lightning storm or a strong wind pushing them into something sharp.
Gaspod Size | Explosion Diameter | Explosion Damage | Market Value |
Tiny | 1 foot | 1d4 | 5gp |
Small | 5 feet | 2d6 | 25gp |
Medium | 10 feet | 8d6 + 10 | 100gp |
Large | 30 feet | 10d10 + 10 | 300gp |
Huge | 240 feet | 10d10 + 10 | 500gp |
Gargantuan | 360 feet | 20d10 + 10 | 100pp |
Fauna
The swamp is rife with all matter of life from all matter of origins. The many forms of life that exist here do so in a tenuous balance that can shift as seasonally as the current of the Tun river.
Fallen Trees
When a
Treant gets fed up with life wherever they come from, they may end up here.
Some want to be left alone, while others will actively harass, inhibit or even ambush and outright attack travelers.
While there are some friendly figures amidst them they are notably rare and there are no reported social circles or society to speak of among them.
Travelers are warned to be wary of any large log in the road, where they see no other trees.
d20 | Fallen Tree Behaviour |
1-3 | Run |
4-12 | Ambush |
13-18 | Attack |
19-20 | Friendly |
Run
The
Fallen Tree hides and runs away if discovered, fighting back only if necessary and animating whatever flora around it to defend its escape. If undiscovered while hiding, they may never reveal themselves. Some may be
Friendly but wary of travelers until they feel they can safely reveal themselves.
Ambush
The
Fallen Tree may dislike or hate travelers and will hide and attack when it feels the time is right, animating surrounding flora to aide it in its assault to either sabotage or outright murder.
Attack
The
Fallen Tree despises travelers and will attack them on sight animating surrounding flora to aide it in destroying its target.
Friendly
The
Fallen Tree is friendly towards travelers and may enjoy chatting, may be seeking to trade, looking for information, or offering warnings, advice or directions. They are typically pacifistic and slow to anger, fighting defensively when necessary.
Adventure Hooks
The life of a siphoner is a chance for those who can't find other work, for those who wish to disappear, or those who seek a different sort of adventure.
A character may become a siphoner for any of the following reasons:
- They inherit or have family with a Writ of Harvest and siphoning stations.
- They work for a harvesting company or independent alchemist with a writ.
- They are actually smugglers working to deliver goods to swamp denizens and/or Drovers.
- They are in hiding from law enforcement or a criminal organization.
- They work to provide their family or tribe with alchemical goods.
- They are apprenticed to the writ holder.
- They are supplying Drover villages with medicine, employment, or commerce.
- They are trying to harvest a particular type of material for a particular type of alchemical endeavor.
- They are unwillfully pressed into service.

2023.03.26 06:32 Muffin_man_1405 WERE-BIRD
(guys, this is the first time I am posting some writing that I did on Reddit. I need feedback and criticism. pls, be harsh. )
We are the cinnar, ancestors of the great Avicula, of Pokqua tribe. com'n, you will get the hang of it.There is just so much you have yet to see dear."

2023.03.26 05:52 dgoldstein38 Thoughts on a soccer style loan program?
In international soccer there is an element in personnel management where a team loans out a player to another team
When a player is on loan, the parent club still owns the player but the player plays for the club to which he is loaned. If the loan is within a league, then the player will not be able to play in a match against his parent club. The player's wages are determined in a case by case manner. The parent club may choose to fully, partly or not subsidize the players wages when on loan.
Would this idea work in the NBA? A few motivations for a team do to this are as follows:
1) a tanking team loans out their best player (think thunder loaning SGA to tank for wemby) so they aren’t too good and a contender takes the player on for a year or two to maximize their championship window (think Celtics renting sga for two years)
2) a team with underperforming high draft picks sends them to a worse team to get them more minutes and see how they perform in a different setting (bulls could have with lauri or with Patrick Williams now for example)
3) a team trying to hit the reset could loan out productive players for draft assets and then still trade them for further assets down the line (heat loan out bam and then trade him again in two years assuming he’s still under contract)
4) any other reasons you guys could think of in the replies
How would this change personnel management in the NBA? Should the league consider adding this? Why or why not?

2023.03.26 05:21 Zaouri AITA for moving my sister's hair products out of the bathroom and into her room so I could clean the place and for her to organise it?
Im currently getting a lot of heat from my family, and I am worried if I am the bad guy here or if there's more to this. Will this be seen by much anyway?
It started when I (25F) cleaned the bathroom this morning. I noticed the bottles of clutter my sister (19F) left around the shower, like half-empty shampoo and conditioners, sometimes two half-empty pairs of the same brand. She has a habit of leaving things in her room and bathroom for ages, like letting one of my mugs go mouldy and whatever she was drinking go rancid until someone tells her to do something about it. So I figured, well, if she's asleep and I've got to scrub this place down, then I can leave the bottles on her desk in her room, have her figure out what she would like to do with them and send her a text message so when she wakes up she'll know why. So I left the bottles and products in her room and cleaned my bathroom.
After taking care of the bathroom, I went about whatever else I was doing when I heard her scream from my room next door. She wants to know why all her hair products are in her room. I get out of mine, and Im standing outside her room. She's gone off on me, asking me why I did it; I replied that the bottles cluttered the bathroom and wanted her to go through it. Instead, she argued loudly that I shouldn't have messed with her stuff and that it was a shared bathroom. In hindsight, she was right, but I was frustrated over something that could have been discussed rather than yelled over at the time.
She and I fought, and I just left mid-conversation because it was going nowhere, or more realistically, more about how it was my fault I moved her things to her room. I got to my room, and it slammed itself because of the open window. That wakes my dad from his Sunday snooze, and now everyone is in trouble. My sister then tried to blame me for everything over the phone, and I had it and just ignored her messages. Even talking to my mom, she took her side, calling me a dick for moving her stuff around even after telling her what I was doing. The sad thing is that even trying to defend myself with how she got half-empty bottles and is KNOWN to be messy, and then suddenly, I moved a bunch of things, and Im the one in trouble. I can't tell if I am the bad guy or if my sister made it a bigger deal to my mom that no matter what I say, it doesn't matter.
Tell me honestly, AITA?

2023.03.26 05:11 littlenoodlesoup Does anyone keep a full suite of hair/makeup stuff at work? Trying to decide what to bring and what to leave.
Hello! I was going to post in
bikecommuting (still might) but I will probably get better answers here . This question mostly applies to people who want or are required to look professional at work.
I'm moving to a new job in Florida and I'm wondering how much personal care/beauty stuff people take in or leave in the office. Thankfully the office complex has showers, so I'm not forced into sink baths or anything, but putting on makeup afterward and doing my hair is important to me.
I'm thinking of keeping a full set of makeup there to make it easier but idk if that's overkill. Also for hair should I keep a hairdryer? If I end up wanting curls I'll probably have to bring along the Dyson airwrap but a regular hair drier could be left there.
Another reason i'm hesitant to do so is ofc cost. Why buy doubles of a lot of stuff if I could just take it back and forth? But then i'm like, what if the products melt in the heat? What if I have the day off and want my stuff? It means I have to pack and unpack pretty much daily, which although not necessarily time consuming is pretty annoying.
Any tips for those who wear full face makeup in hot climates and bike commute? I'm a Midwesterner so moving to South Florida is going to be interesting. 😵💫

2023.03.26 04:55 CedarRain Echoes in the Shadows: A White Mountains Encounter
My name is Alex. I'm a 29-year-old software engineer, and I live in Boston with my partner, Tyler. It was the summer of 2022, and we decided to take a trip with our close friends to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. We rented a cozy Airbnb nestled amongst the picturesque landscape, with the intention of escaping our busy city lives and taking in some fresh air.
The group consisted of Tyler and I, our friends Sarah and Ben, and a couple we hadn't met before, Rachel and her girlfriend, Lia. We had all been looking forward to this trip, and the excitement was palpable as we arrived at our Airbnb.
We had been looking forward to this vacation for months, and it was finally time to relax and unwind. The six of us made our way to the cozy Airbnb we had rented for a week in the heart of the mountains. The place was a quaint two-story cabin with a wraparound porch, offering breathtaking views of the mountains. It had a spacious living room, a well-equipped kitchen, three bedrooms, and a loft area where Rachel and Lia would be staying. The first day was all about getting settled in and familiarizing ourselves with the surroundings.
The next morning, we had a hearty breakfast, and then we all set out to explore the nearby trails. The weather was perfect – sunny and warm with a gentle breeze. We spent the day hiking, laughing, and taking pictures to immortalize our trip.
As the week progressed, we enjoyed swimming in the nearby lake, barbecuing on the porch, and playing games late into the night. Everything seemed perfect, and we were all having a fantastic time. However, that's when things began to change.
On the fourth night, Tyler and I were in our room, getting ready for bed. We had just finished brushing our teeth when we heard a faint tapping sound on the window. We looked at each other, shrugged, and assumed it was just a branch swaying in the wind. We crawled into bed, kissed each other goodnight, and closed our eyes.
A few minutes later, the tapping sound returned, this time louder and more persistent. Annoyed, I got up to inspect the source of the noise, expecting to find a tree branch in need of trimming. However, as I pulled back the curtain, there was nothing there – no branch, no animal, just the dark, still night. I closed the curtain and returned to bed, feeling a little uneasy.
The next day, I mentioned the tapping to the rest of the group during breakfast. Everyone exchanged curious glances, and Ben chimed in, saying he had heard a similar noise the previous night as well. We decided it was probably just the wind playing tricks on us and continued with our plans for the day.
That evening, we all gathered in the living room to play some board games. The atmosphere was light and cheerful, as we joked and teased each other. As the night wore on, we began to hear creaking sounds coming from the floor above us. It wasn't unusual for an old cabin to make noises, but these seemed more deliberate, almost rhythmic.
Growing increasingly uneasy, we decided to investigate the sounds. As we climbed the stairs to the second floor, the creaking ceased, leaving an eerie silence. We cautiously made our way to the loft where Rachel and Lia were staying and found nothing out of the ordinary. The girls, sensing our apprehension, asked what was going on. We dismissed it as the house settling and went back downstairs to resume our games.
For the next couple of days, the strange occurrences continued. Items would go missing, only to be found in obscure places. Doors would creak open when no one was near them. Soft footsteps would echo through the hallways late at night. We tried to rationalize these events, blaming the wind or our overactive imaginations, but deep down, we all knew something was off.
Despite the unsettling events that had occurred during our stay, we were determined to make the most of our last night together. As we sat around the fire, we couldn't help but feel a strange sense of unease. It was as if the darkness surrounding us was growing heavier, and the shadows were creeping closer.
Around midnight, we decided to head back inside, exhausted from the day's activities. As we entered the cabin, we couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched. The air inside felt colder, and there was a palpable tension amongst us.
We agreed that it would be best to stay together for the remainder of the night. We gathered in the living room, turning on every light and playing music to try and dispel the eerie atmosphere. We took turns keeping watch, while the others attempted to catch some sleep.
As the hours ticked by, the strange occurrences intensified. The tapping on the windows returned, this time accompanied by faint scratching sounds. The footsteps upstairs grew louder, and we could hear muffled whispers in the hallway. We were all on edge, our nerves frayed and our eyes darting around the room.
At around 4 a.m., the power suddenly went out, plunging the cabin into darkness. Panic set in as we scrambled to find flashlights and candles. As we huddled together, the whispers turned into distant laughter, and we could hear the sound of heavy breathing just outside the front door.
Fear gripped us, but we knew we had to take action. Tyler, the bravest among us, grabbed a fireplace poker and cautiously approached the door. As he slowly opened it, the laughter stopped, and all that remained was the cold, still night.
We decided it was best to pack our things and leave as soon as the sun rose. We spent the remaining hours before dawn in a state of heightened alert, listening for any sound that might signal danger. As soon as the first light of daybreak filtered through the curtains, we grabbed our bags and rushed to the car.
As we pulled away from the cabin, I couldn't help but glance back at the seemingly innocent structure that had become the setting for our terrifying ordeal. I noticed something I hadn't seen before: a set of footprints leading away from the house and disappearing into the woods.
I shuddered, realizing that our ordeal wasn't just the product of our imaginations. Someone – or something – had been watching us, toying with us, and invading our safe haven. We sped away from the cabin, grateful to have made it through the week, but forever haunted by the memories of our time in the White Mountains.
As we later found out, there had been reports of a dangerous individual lurking in the area, preying on unsuspecting tourists. We were lucky to have escaped unscathed, but the experience taught us a valuable lesson: always trust your instincts, because sometimes the scariest things are rooted in reality.
