Hi! New (potential) TaskRabbit customer here - and I'm aware this isn't a TR owned forum, but I thought I'd bounce a few questions over those who are most interested & aware of how things work:
I need to move an office area (medium sized wood desk that's all one part, plus an old wood chair that can't be disassembled, plus maybe 10 small moving boxes of office stuff) from one city (Dallas) to another (Houston). It's 250 or so miles from one to the other, per Google Maps, and about 3.5 hours drive, traffic cooperating. My hope would be on the TaskRabbit person having the truck or trailer or Nissan SV2500 fullsize van that could then move this stuff.
What should my expectations be on a (very) small move like this? Is this something TR can help with, or should I go with a more traditional move service? How would hours be charged, and is the 33% TaskRabbit fee (I see a common rate of around $60 an hour, and a common TaskRabbit add on of around $20 an hour) typical and expected?
When I read about most folks who list themselves as helping with moves, most of them feel like they handle sofa deliveries or in-town movies, which is a bit faster and simpler than what I am asking for.
What if when I select a TR person, they see the job and decide they can't do it (perhaps due to the dates, or the distance, or just not wanting to do a city to city, all-day move) ? I feel like I'm paying my money before even realizing if they can and will do the job...

We have an open phone policy. At any time, she can take my phone and look through it for however long she likes. I am perfectly ok with it because there's nothing to hide. That being said, The last few times she's gone through my phone, she's found absolutely nothing questionable, and she shouldn't because I really don't use my phone anymore except to talk to her, but that has seemed to cause her to try to dig deeper by going back in my Google map timelines, looking at things from before we even met. I don't know what she is looking for and she's not saying. I don't care what she may or may not discover, if I haven't already told her about it, I openly answer questions.
Today is an anniversary for one of my big lies/coverups, so emotions are already on high. I wake up, she asks to see my phone. She's been looking at the trip I took last Memorial Day for the last hour or more. I think its pain shopping, she says that's not what she does, so I don't know.
When she does this, I get on edge, because while she's holed up scouring my phone finding nothing, I am feeding her children breakfast and working on the dishes. Doesn't seem fair. I know I f-ed up but this seems a little off to me. I'm not looking for advice or anything, just wanting to tell my side.

I'm trying to setup a basic system where I make like 2-3 dozen areas/rooms by hand, and then as you move through the area the game spawns in one at random when you start to get to the edge of the one you're currently in. It's a very basic idea, but I'm new to Unreal (coming from Godot), and I'm not really sure what the most efficient way to store/spawn/place rooms like this is. You can do it in Godot, but Godot's 3D & Online features aren't up to snuff imo, so I've been learning unreal these last couple of months.
In Godot I could literally just place an invisible object at the corners of each map, and set an area around it that if the player came within that area it'd pick a random map from the directory of pre-made maps and plop it in at that connecting point. I assume something similar is doable in Unreal, but I'm not as familiar with it's workings so I don't really know how to setup that kind of system, or if it's even the most efficient way to do it in Unreal.
Also, googling for tutorials has so far only got me videos/lessons about "Open World Creation" and "Procedural Biome Generation" and that kind of thing; none of which seem to match my intentions.

Hello everyone,
This summer I’m planning to visit Milan by car starting my journey from Dresden. Looking at google maps there are 2 possible ways: going east around Munich and down to Austria (Salzburg) and Brenner Pass, or going west of Nuremberg through Austria and Switzerland.
The second option is shorter by an hour (circa 100 km) but I’m wondering what are the costs of additionally going through Switzerland, and is it worth it? If someone had the same dilemma I would really appreciate any comments on that matter, or even better if someone knows all the additional tolls :)

The problem arises when attempting to work with this raw data, as several parameters are stored as numerical values. For instance, the user account status may be represented as follows:
To address this, we aim to map this data to corresponding words or text once and for all. However, our engineers have informed us that modifying or editing data within BigQuery is challenging because it operates as a one-way synchronization, and any alterations would significantly increase the cost of the data warehouse.
To overcome this issue, our plan is to implement a Metabase layer on top of the Google BigQuery data warehouse. Therefore, my question is: Is it feasible to perform the data mapping within Metabase so that analytics can be conducted using more user-friendly values?

2023.05.29 14:07 Foul-Ole_Ron War Thunder drama continues as players try to boycott the game and form a union, only for one organizer to be immediately spotted while playing, and others accusing developer Gajin of artificially inflaiting the player count

Context: War Thunder is a vehicle based combat-MMO from 2013. Vehicles in game are planes, tanks, and ships ranging from the early 1920s to the 1990s. The game is ostensibly free to play, but at higher tiers especially it becomes very difficult to play the game without a premium subscription (which earns you 50% more money per match) or a premium vehicle. Without premium, you're basically guaranteed to lose Silver Lions when you die at higher tiers.
Gajin, the developer, is notorious for implementing mechanics that increase the grind/are not player friendly (for example: when first playing a new tank, you have to research and buy a fire extinguisher. If your tank catches fire before this, you're shit out of luck, and you'll have to wait until your tank burns down and your crew dies).
Now the playerbase, and /WarThunder in particular, has a reputation for being fairly toxic and for hating the game while continuing to play. The reason given being that no other game hits that sweet spot of historical combined arms combat.
When Gajin announced the newest changes to the economy, a portion of the playerbase finally had enough and raised an outcry, as described in this SRD post.
After this the /warthunder sub was dominated for days by players review bombing the game on Steam and Google, changing the game's overall reception to 'mixed'.
Gajin eventually removed Steam from their listed platforms, but as far as I know the game is still playable through Steam.
Ten days ago, Gajin announced that they were reverting the latest economy change.. They also invited players to take part in a survey about the in-game economy (with predictable results) Later they followed this up with a blog post, apologizing for the state of the economy, and promising a road map with changes to be published next month. This was received with suspicion on /WarThunder: redditors either believed this was a move by Gajin to stop the review bombing, or were convinced this proved they were not aware of the state of their own game.
While all this was going on, some players formed the subreddit /WarThunderPlayerUnion. A sub dedicated to organizing a boycott of the game, starting on the 26th of may. This led to several conspiracy theories about Gajin artificially inflating the player numbers. Other posts on the player union sub even accused Gajin of remotely taking control of their PC, and logging into the game.
Union organizers started getting pretty slap-happy with the banhammers, infighting between conspiracy theorists and moderates happened, and this all led to several dramatic 'I'm resigning as a union admin'-posts.
The /Warthunder sub seems to be mostly back to normal now. Normal of course being complaining about the state of game, posting about anime body pillows, with the occasional post exhorting players to not give Gajin money.

Teams Update – April 2023

Welcome to the World Mobile Dev Diary. The first quarter of 2023 is finished already, and we’d be fools not to be excited for the second.
The teams are going to shower us with tales of what they’ve done and what they are busy with; they might even give us a peek into what is coming next. Let’s get on with it!

Web & Services Team

The team worked on support for the marketplace in the Native App, including the retrieval of price and product information, and purchases in different countries. Currently, we are progressing work to obtain order IDs and codes to redeem from our partners. In addition, we are integrating our fiat on-ramp provider to support WUC top-ups.
To allow Financial Managers to track statistics for analysis, we upgraded the financial dashboard on Gravity.
WMT Scan has been updated to report the top 10 AirNodes by revenue, rather than the top 5 that was previously reported.
Next up, we are going to work on support for AirNode provisioning and management. For the Native App, we are going to look at the management of exchange rates to support multiple currencies in the marketplace.

EarthNodes Team

After a busy end to March with the finalisation and release of the AyA White Paper, we would like to thank the community – and the wider World Mobile team – for the warm reception. It took a lot of time and effort, and we are delighted to see the interest it has generated.
We have no time to rest, though. Now we are planning the developments that will create the EarthNode network we put forward in the White Paper.
Not forgetting our testnet. As always, we have supported existing and onboarded further, EarthNode Operators.
To support the addition of a wallet to the Native App, we have been implementing transaction signing for the mobile environment. Our attention will turn next to the required metadata and discovery of stake pool endpoints, as well as the tracking of asset movement during transactions.

Network Nodes Team

This month we have done a lot of spring cleaning. Time has mostly been spent on improving processes and systems.
Improvements to the AirNode scanning process, for example. We are also continuing our work to improve AirNode provisioning; including work to support provisioning by a Network Manager using Gravity.
We increased the security and usability of account recovery, and improved account creation, in the Native App.
Further improvements have been made to our data retention and performance processes and monitoring.
Our planning efforts have been around the expansion into more countries. The work will involve expanding and separating services to work either globally or in-country. This means that we have to identify and recognise each in-country request to a global service and ensure that the response is sent to the right location. We also need to know immediately if anything isn’t working as expected so that we can investigate and escalate any issues as quickly and efficiently as required.
Next, we’ll be looking at improvements to the captive portal connections and to data consumption.

Native Apps Team

The Native App supporting Android devices from version 6 (Marshmallow) has been uploaded to Google Play.
Google started to phase out the WifiManager SDK API in Android 10. The Google Play conditions were also changed to require a higher version of the Android Target SDK; this change resulted in the disabling of the WifiManager SDK API and meant that apps had to use alternative SDK APIs to configure and add Wi-Fi networks. To address the changes, Google introduced the Suggestions SDK API. However, this SDK API did not meet our requirements, so we developed the Android 10 helper app, which is now available.
It seems to always be somewhere in our month, but once again we have been making adjustments and improvements to the UI. This time we have worked on the welcome screens, this will continue as we add more countries and languages to our coverage.
In collaboration with the EarthNode team, we have been building the back end for the wallet. Of course, this means further UI work for us as well.
We have also been working on the part of the App that helps us to build a map of the network, and users to earn as they help us to scan the surroundings. Additionally, we have almost finished the work needed to introduce our marketplace, where users can make purchases from our partners from within the App.
Our QA team is testing the integration with our payment providers.
Soon, we’ll be releasing the updated version of the Native App with our latest UI improvements and the addition of the marketplace and Scan to Earn.

System Engineering Team

Evaluated vendors for tenant migration.
Now preparing a brief on tenant migration based on our findings.

InfoSec Team

Continuing the work that we started last month, we have assessed various security-related vendors for our internal systems and documented our findings and conclusions.
Currently, we are considering penetration or pen, test providers. This will lead to pen testing of all features and solutions before their release.
